Paul's coronation as laird of Glenbogle is threatened by an unexpected challenge to his title. Clan elder Proctor Sheila MacDonald makes the startling revelation that, as the only surviving legitimate MacDonald male, it is Donald who is the rightful laird, not Paul. Spotting an opportunity to have some fun, Donald enthusiastically accepts the title, much to Paul's fury. Molly's return from New Zealand is marred when she discovers her luggage has gone missing, including a precious photo of her and son Jamie. Paul finally loses patience with Donald after discovering that his uncle intends to impose a tax on the estate tenants and challenges him for the title of laird, much to the delight of Golly, Jess, Ewan and Isobel.
